RSS Feed
If you already know what the deal is, you can subscribe to Dalton's RSS Feed and skip the stuff below. ![]()
To add the Boy's RSS feed to most readers, simply right-click on the orange XML button or the link above to "Copy Shortcut." Then paste ("Ctrl V") it into the reader's "Add URL" box, and you'll be getting the latest Boy News automatically. (If you click the little orange button, don't worry about the text in your browser -- all you need is the URL in the browser's web address bar.)
RSS? Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?
What is RSS?
"RSS" stands for Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, and/or Rockdale, Sandow, and Southern (Railroad) (along with 82 other things, accoring to the folks at AcronymFinder.com). Really Simple Syndication is probably the most widely agreed-upon choice. RSS is a standard for publishing regular updates to web-based content.
With RSS, you can get Dalton's latest 'blog postings automatically (as well as stuff like news headlines from major news organizations, etc.). To do that, you need to use an RSS reader program (or an online service) to collect and monitor the "feeds" you want. (RSS content is often called a "feed").
How do I read RSS Feeds?
You have essentially two choices: a program you can install on your computer or an online service. There are a bunch of programs that'll work, but two good ones are FeedDemon (for Windows) and NetNewsWire (for Mac OS X). They aren't free, but they're easy and have lots of RSS feeds already built-in. There are free readers, too, and any search for "RSS Reader" at Yahoo or Google will give lots of options.
You can use an online service instead, which lets you access your feed updates anywhere you have a web browser handy (or even on things like a cellphone or a Blackberry, if you're that much of a techie). The downside is you might have fewer options and slower performance versus using a RSS Reader program on your computer. NewsGator, Bloglines, and My Yahoo! (which now has RSS options) are examples of web-based RSS feed readers.
